Dr. Galen Cole, Ph.D., M.P.H., L.P.C., CADC-III, is licensed as a professional counselor in the state of Georgia. His certifications include: Diplomate and Board Certified Professional Counselor (DBCPC), American Psychotherapy Association; National Certified Counselor (NCC), National Board of Certified Counselors; Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), National Association of Cognitive Behavioral Therapists; Level Three Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC -III), Georgia Alcohol and Drug Abuse Certification Board; and Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP), Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association. Dr. Cole is also registered by the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) as a DUI Clinical Evaluator, and has completed the intensive Mayo Clinic Tobacco Treatment Specialist Certification Training Program. As a therapist, he provides individual, couple, family and group therapy. He has extensive training and experience in clinical counseling psychotherapy, psychiatric epidemiology, behavioral science research, informatics, patient education, mass and interpersonal communication, and public health. He's taught counseling psychology, equine assisted mental health, behavioral and evaluation research, and a number of other counseling and health-related courses at the university level. He's been on the faculty at Northern Arizona University, Arizona State University, and the Pennsylvania State University. He's currently on the graduate faculty at the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Cole has extensive experience practicing what he teaches, including working on staff and as a consultant at numerous clinics, hospitals and community based organizations; serving as the executive director of not-for-profit foundation; working as an assistant director of the county public health department in Phoenix, Arizona; and working for 19 years as a behavioral scientist and director of research, evaluation, and communication activities in various centers, institutes, and offices at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia. In 2003, Dr. Cole was appointed by the Governor of Georgia to serve on the Georgia Human Resources (DHR) Board. In this capacity he served as chair of the DHR committee that provided policy guidance to the state Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Addictive Diseases. He currently serves on the American Board of Professional Counselors. Dr. Cole has been a trainer and consultant in the Central Asian Republics, Nigeria, China, Thailand, Kenya, Switzerland, Australia, Peru, Germany, Uganda, and the Middle East, where he has consulted and conducted trainings with the Palestinian Health Authority, the Israeli Ministry of Health, and many other NGOs. He has been published widely and has made presentations at conferences and training seminars across the world. In recognition of his many accomplishments, Dr. Cole has received distinguished alumni awards from two of the universities he attended. Dr. Cole and his wife Priscilla have been married for 33 years and are the parents of 5 children, ranging in age from 19 to 33.
